Finck Cigar Company Celebrates its Quasquicentennail

That’s right folks, we’re 125 years old this year. Founded in 1893 by my great grandfather Henry William Finck, our business has thrived through all manner of ups and downs since he started rolling cigars in a small room in his house. Two World Wars and numerous “conflicts”, the great depression, and unending governmental regulation and taxation represent some of the lows. But living in the United States and the freedom that comes with that privilege have far outweighed the tough times. In the same year our founder borrowed $1,000 and started his cigar business, Katharine Lee Bates wrote America the Beautiful. The last verse:

O beautiful for patriot dream
That sees beyond the years
Thine alabaster cities gleam
Undimmed by human tears!
America! America!
God shed His grace on thee
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea!

Patriots not only dream of opportunity, but see it come true in this gleaming country. The brotherhood – the spirit of Americans – shines brightest when our country needs us the most. America! America! God surely has shed his grace on us. I am so thankful to live in this country of spacious skies, amber waves of grain, and purple mountain majesties. America the Beautiful – thank you for 125 wonderful years.
