All pipe tobaccos produce tar and acids which, if not removed, condense on the smokers tongue and give a burn known as ‘tongue bite”. The Brigham system, developed in the 1930’s, drastically reduces tongue bite by virtually eliminating moisture. The rock maple insert does not impede airflow or add any flavor of its own. Instead, it improves the smoking characteristics of even the wettest tobaccos. There are no chemicals or additives of any kind used in these filters, and they can be rinsed and reused several times before being replaced.
